The Wade Family Foundation’s Support Mentoring Advocacy Resources for Trauma Recovery (S.M.A.R.T.R) Initiative provides support to trauma patients and their families during and after trauma recovery. Key components of the initiative include mentoring and counseling individuals and families dealing with traumatic injuries, as well as providing referrals to outside agencies and organizations that specialize in specific support programs. In addition, the S.M.A.R.T.R Initiative uses sports and recreational activities as a way to uplift and improve the morale, environment, and self-confidence of individuals who have experienced physical and/or mental traumatic injuries.
Our overall goal is to provide the necessary resources and tools to empower individuals and families who have been affected by traumatic incidents.
S.M.A.R.T.R mentors have firsthand knowledge of the many challenges and circumstances that individuals and their families face when recovering from a traumatic injury. Our mentors were able to overcome many of these challenges and currently lead productive, successful, and overall positive lives. S.M.A.R.T.R mentors are willing to share their personal experiences and lessons learned with those in need. Whether it involves advocating, providing financial assistance to specific programs, or mediating at a physician appointment, the S.M.A.R.T.R. Initiative is here to help!
This photo was taken at the Disability Empowerment Center (D.E.C.) it pictures Sue Wolf P.H.D. a consultant for Arizona Spinal Cord Injury Association, James, and Paul Mortensen Executive Director of the Arizona Spinal Cord Injury Association.
This picture, taken May 5, 2009, shows James Wade, S.M.A.R.T.R mentor and C.N.O. of the foundation, presenting a $2000.00 check on behalf of the Wade Family Foundation to support the Arizona Spinal Cord Injury Association. The sports program lost its funding and the donation we provided funded the sports program for the entire year. The program is designed to award grants to quadriplegic athletes who participate in quad rugby and quad power soccer.

“James Hinckley and the Wade Family Foundation make my job so much easier. From the first meeting, they were very pleasant to work with and responsive. They asked us if they could help and with every need we identified, James and his brother Bobby were right there to give us a hand. When our budget became too limited to fund our sports programs, the Wade Foundation stepped in to make those grants possible for our local wheelchair sports teams. When we asked for support for our educational series, they were there and they were there even as a friend. James presented on the importance of personal choices for my mother’s class of emotionally and behaviorally challenged children. James and the Wade Family Foundation are all around good people with big hearts and a mission that goes above and beyond the call of duty to better society.”
